A useful website brief describes the business goal, intended audience, important pages, available content, required actions and delivery responsibilities. It should make the decisions and unknowns visible—not pretend you already know every technical answer.

Start with a business outcome.
“A modern website” describes an appearance. “Help customers compare our services and request the right estimate” gives the design a job to do. Choose one primary action and describe what makes an inquiry useful.
Inventory what you already have.
List the pages people use, useful search entry points and content your team can stand behind. Mark material to keep, improve or remove. A redesign should not lose an important answer just because its old page looked dated.
Name the next person in the process.
Forms and automations need an owner. Who replies? Who approves content? Who updates the site after launch? Writing those responsibilities down helps avoid a polished website with an unclear follow-through.
Use it to compare scope, not just price.
Two website quotes can look similar while covering different work. Your brief helps you ask each provider about content, migration, forms, accessibility testing, consent, integrations and support. Ask what is included, who supplies it and how you will know it is complete.
